Theme 5 Flashcards
1
Q
What are the factors that affect visibility? (4)
A
- Angle
- Brightness
- Color
- Glare
2
Q
What are the types of glare? (3)
A
- Discomfort glare: observer annoyed but not inhibited from task
- Disability glare: observer is annoyed and performance is reduced
- Blinding glare: temporarily blinding to observer
3
Q
How can hearing loss be classified? (3)
A
- Temporary threshold shift: hearing impairment of short duration, effect is reversible.
- Noise-induced permanent threshold shift: not reversible due to long-term exposure
- Acoustic trauma: hearing loss caused by single exposure to very high intensity noise of short duration, loss can be temporary / permanent.
4
Q
What are the measurements of sound? (3)
A
- Sound level meter
- Integrating sound level meter
- Noise dosimeter
5
Q
What are the ways of controlling noise? (2)
A
- Administrative controls
2. Engineering controls
6
Q
What are the levels at which noise can be mechanically reduced? (3)
A
- At source
- At receiver e.g. provide ear protection for workers
- Along path between source and receiver
