Theme 4a Pt 2 Flashcards
What is incomplete dominance
What is codominance
Intermediate phenotype (blending) since one allele is not completely dominant to other allele.
Both traits are expressed, dominant alleles fight for expression
What does it mean when traits are polygenic
Multiple genes are responsible for contributing to one particular trait
Ex. Length of corn ears
More dom alleles give longer ear of corn
What is a monohybrid cross
Cross between two heterozygotes
How is the probability of a genotype in a cross determined
By multiplying the probabilities of getting each gamete from mother and father
If something is heterozygous how many types of gametes does it make
What about homozygous
Two types (two alleles are diff)
One type (two alleles are the same)
What is a test cross
Mating to an individual with a homozygous recessive genotype (a/a)
What is incomplete dominance
Intermediate phenotype, one allele isn’t completely dominant to other allele
There is a functional enzyme and a non functional, the plants make some functional enzyme but not enough so we get intermediate phenotype
Use superscript to label the alleles
What is codominance
Alleles have equal effects (dominant alleles fight for expression)
The heterozygote shows both homozygote phenotypes at same time (speckled)
