¿Cómo es tu barrio/ciudad?
Vivo en una ciudad se llama Margate. Es bastante grande y tiene unas playas impresionantes a las que voy a menudo. Hay muchas cosas que hacer aquí: recomiendo especialmente el centro comercial porque tiene una gran variedad de tiendas. Sin embargo, suelo ir al cine que está cerca de allí porque creo que ver una película en la gran pantalla es más divertido que ir de compras. Recientemente se ha construido un nuevo polideportivo donde se puede hacer natación, escalada o esgrima. Si pudiera elegir, iría allí alguna vez, quizá cuando hace mal tiempo. Antes había un gran estadio. Si hubiera tenido más tiempo, lo habría pasado yendo allí.
What is your neighbourhood/city like?
I live in a town called Margate. It’s quite big and has impressive beaches which I often go to. There are lots of things to do here: I especially recommend the shopping centre because it has a great variety of shops. However, I often go to the cinema nearby because I think watching a film on the big screen is more fun than shopping. Recently a new sports centre has been built where you can go swimming, climbing or fencing. If I could choose, I would go there sometime, maybe in bad weather. There used to be a big stadium. If I had more time, I would have spent it going there.
¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu barrio/ciudad?
Normalmente, cuando puedo, veo una película en el cine. La mayoría de las veces hay algo que me gustaría ver, pero de momento no. Por suerte, es verano, así que puedo disfrutar de un partido de fútbol en el parque. Sin embargo, tengo que repasar para mis próximos exámenes. Si fuera invierno, probablemente me quedaría en casa los fines de semana, porque no se puede jugar al fútbol sobre hierba helada. Este verano, cuando acabe los exámenes, quiero hacer mucho deporte y disfrutar del buen tiempo. Además, dentro de unos meses la galería de arte tendrá una nueva exposición que debo ver y ¡las entradas son gratis!
What do you like to do in your neighbourhood/city?
Normally, when I can, I watch a film at the cinema. Most of the time there is something I would like to see, but not at the moment. Luckily, it’s summer, so I can enjoy a football match in the park. However, I have to revise for my upcoming exams. If it were winter, I would probably stay at home on weekends, because you can’t play football on icy grass. This summer, when I finish my exams, I want to do a lot of sport and enjoy the nice weather. Furthermore, in a few months the art gallery will have a new exhibition that I must see and the tickets are free!
¿Qué harás mañana en tu ciudad?
Mañana seguiré revisando para mis próximos exámenes. Sin embargo, a pesar de las últimas previsiones meteorológicas, no creo que llueva pronto. Estoy convencido de que la temperatura se mantendrá por encima de los veinte grados y, por lo tanto, hará mucho calor dentro de este edificio. Creo que va a ser difícil repasar mañana.
What will you do tomorrow in your city?
Tomorrow I will continue revising for my next exams. However, despite the latest weather forecasts, I don’t think it will rain any time soon. I am convinced that the temperature will stay above twenty degrees and therefore it will be very hot inside this building. I think it is going to be difficult to revise tomorrow.
¿Cuáles son las ventajas de tu ciudad?
Me encanta que hay tantos espacios al aire libre en mi ciudad. Por ejemplo, cuando era pequeño siempre iba al parque con mis padres y ahora voy allí con mis amigos. Me gusta especialmente lo impresionantes que son las playas. Sin embargo, en verano suele haber demasiados turistas, lo que provoca mucho tráfico y contaminación. Además, el turismo genera mucha basura y el mar está lleno de plástico.
What are the advantages of your city?
I love that there are so many outdoor spaces in my city. For example, when I was little I always went to the park with my parents and now I go there with my friends. I especially like how impressive the beaches are. However, in summer there are usually too many tourists, which causes a lot of traffic and pollution. Furthermore, tourism generates a lot of rubbish and the sea is full of plastic.

¿Cómo cambiarías tu ciudad?
Desde mi punto de vista, aquí hay demasiados problemas medioambientales. Si yo fuera alcalde, añadiría más estaciones de carga para coches eléctricos, porque la contaminación es un problema grave. También hay que mejorar el sistema de transporte, porque hay demasiado tráfico en el centro del pueblo. Además, hay que limpiar las playas, así que si yo fuera responsable de la ciudad, financiaría las limpiezas. La basura es un problema importante en casi todo el mundo, pero es complicado de resolver porque las multas son difíciles de aplicar.
How would you change your city?
From my point of view, there are too many environmental problems here. If I were mayor, I would add more charging stations for electric cars, because pollution is a serious problem. The transport system also needs to be improved, because there is too much traffic in the centre of town. Furthermore, the beaches need to be cleaned up, so if I were responsible of the city, I would fund the clean-ups. Litter is an important problem almost everywhere in the world, but it is complicated to solve because fines are difficult to apply.
¿Dónde te gusta pasar las vacaciones normalmente? ¿En tu ciudad o en otro lugar?
Mi familia y yo a veces nos quedamos en Inglaterra durante las vacaciones de verano porque es más barato que volar al extranjero. Sin embargo, solemos visitar a nuestros parientes en otros países porque no los vemos a menudo. Mis padres prefieren conocer sitios nuevos, así que de vez en cuando vamos a algún lugar lejano.
Where do you like to spend the holidays normally? In your city or in another place?
My family and I sometimes stay in England during the summer holidays because it is cheaper than flying abroad. However, we tend to visit our relatives in other countries because we don’t see them often. My parents prefer to get to know new places, so from time to time we go to somewhere far away.
¿Adónde fuiste de vacaciones el año pasado?
El año pasado, mis padres y yo fuimos a Gales. Viajamos en tren y el trayecto fue un rollo porque tardamos cinco horas. Sin embargo, la comida era muy buena. Nos alojamos en una casa rural y lo pasamos muy bien porque era tranquila y lujosa. Pudimos ver a mis tíos abuelos porque viven cerca de donde nos alojamos. A veces era bastante aburrido, pero en general las vacaciones fueron una buena distracción de la vida escolar.
Where did you go on holiday last year?
Last year, my parents and I went to Wales. We travelled by train and the journey was a drag because it took five hours. However, the food was very good. We stayed in a holiday cottage and had a great time because it was quiet and luxurious. We got to see my great aunt and uncle because they live near where we stayed. Sometimes it was quite boring, but in general the holiday was a good distraction from school life.
¿Cómo era el pueblo donde te quedaste?
La casa rural en la que nos alojamos estaba cerca de un pequeño pueblo. Era tranquilo porque no había nada que hacer. No pasé mucho tiempo allí.
What was the town like where you stayed?
The holiday cottage that we stayed in was near a small village. It was quiet because there wasn’t anything to do. I didn’t spend a lot of time there.
¿Qué planes tienes para el próximo verano?
Uno de mis lugares favoritos en verano es el sur de Francia porque hace un tiempo estupendo, aunque a veces puede hacer demasiado calor. Sin embargo, cuando tenga la oportunidad, me encantaría ir a algún lugar frío, quizás Escandinavia, ya que me encanta el invierno y la nieve. Me aseguraría de alojarme en un hotel cálido y me pondría muchas capas de ropa para no pasar frío. En general, no me gusta hacer turismo ni visitar museos ya que me parece bastante aburrido. A pesar de eso, he oído que las vistas son impresionantes y espero verlas pronto, en persona.
What plans do you have for next summer?
One of my favourite places in summer is the south of France because the weather is great, although sometimes it can be too hot. However, when I get the chance, I would love to go somewhere cold, maybe Scandinavia, as I love winter and snow. I would make sure to stay in a warm hotel and wear many layers of clothes so that I don’t get cold. In general, I don’t like sightseeing or visiting museums as I find it rather boring. Despite that, I have heard that the views are impressive and I hope to see them soon, in person.
¿Adónde irías si ganaras la lotería y tuvieras mucho dinero?
Si ganara la lotería, no tendría que buscar trabajo pronto. No creo que me fuera mucho de vacaciones, ya que preferiría gastar mi dinero en algo que durará mucho tiempo, por ejemplo una casa bonita. Sin embargo, siempre he querido ver el mundo y me encantaría visitar los volcanes de Islandia.
Where would you go if you were to win the lottery and had lots of money?
If I had won the lottery I wouldn’t have to find a job soon. I don’t think that I would go on holiday much given that I would prefer to spend my money on something that would last a long time, for example a nice house. However, I have always wanted to see the world and I would love to visit the volcanoes in Iceland.
¿Qué fue lo mejor de tus vacaciones?
En general, diría que lo mejor de las vacaciones es que ayudan a relajarse y a olvidarse de todo. Para mí, no tener que pensar en el colegio es increíble. Sin embargo, las vacaciones suelen ser muy breves.
What was the best thing about your holiday?
In general, I would say that the best thing about holidays is that they help you relax and forget about everything. For me, not having to think about school is amazing. However, holidays tend to be very brief.
¿Cómo sería tu ciudad ideal?
Mi ciudad ideal sería mucho más tranquila que en la que vivo ahora. No habría ruido, ni basura, ni contaminación. Desde mi punto de vista, las ciudades están muy superpobladas y son malas para el medio ambiente. Espero vivir en un lugar con muchos espacios verdes y árboles.
What would your ideal city be like?
My ideal town would be far quieter than the one I live in now. There wouldn’t be any noise, any litter, or any pollution. From my point of view, cities are very overcrowded and bad for the environment. I hope to live in a place with lots of green spaces and trees.
¿Cuáles son los mayores problemas globales hoy en día?
Hoy en día hay muchos problemas globales. Los más importantes son el cambio climático y la contaminación. También hay problemas económicos actuales, por ejemplo la crisis inmobiliaria. Además, va a ser muy difícil para el mundo mantener una economía estable.
What are the most important global issues nowadays?
There are many global issues nowadays. The most important are climate change and pollution. There are also current economic problems, for example the housing crisis. Also, it is going to be very difficult for the world to maintain a stable economy.
¿Qué se debería hacer para proteger el planeta?
Es esencial que trabajemos juntos para salvar el planeta. Debemos utilizar menos papel para proteger los bosques, y es necesario que todos reciclemos nuestra basura. Además, tirar la basura es un grave problema medioambiental, así que jamás lo hago.
What should we do to protect the planet?
It is essential that we work together to save the planet. We must use less paper to protect the forests, and it is necessary that we all recycle our rubbish. Also, littering is a serious environmental problem, so I never do it.
