protagonist
The main character of a play
tragedy(genre)
a serious drama or other literary work in which conflict between a protagonist and a superior force (often fate) concludes in disaster for the protagonist.
comedy(genere)
a genre of complex qualities involving humor. Comedy may or may not involve laughter and may or may not end “happily.”
melodrama(genre)
a genre characterized by stereotyped characters, implausible plots, and an emphasis on spectacle.
performance art
a theatrical-type performance that combines elements from fields in the humanities and the arts
script
a written document which contains the words of a play
arena theatre/theatre-in-the-round,
puts the audience around the playing area on all sides.
Thrust/three-quarter theatre
has the audience on three sides of the playing area. This was typical of Elizabethan or Shakespearean theatre.
The proscenium theatre
places the audience on only one side, viewing the action through a frame.
