-The Suez Crisis

What happened at the Polish Crisis?
-The USSR tested countries finding their own way to socialism on Poland
-By the end of June riots broke out to protest the worker targets that were set
-Soviets were concerned that they were sue for independence
-In October the Red Army was stationed in Poland to stop Gomulka’s election yet it went ahead anyways
-Khrushchev withdrew his troops to focus on the Hungarian crisis
What happened at the Hungarian Crisis?
-De-Stalinization put pressure on Hungary to replace it’s Stalinist leader Rakosi with a more liberal leader
-Tito hoped for an independent Communist regime
-On the 23rd October demonstrations began in Budapest demanding the withdrawal of Soviet troops and for a new Government under Nagy
-Nagy was appointed new PM with the USSR mobilising 30,000 troops for a legal and mutually agreed framework
-Nagy threatened to withdraw from the Warsaw pact
-28th October rebels were in control of Hungary with the US giving anti-USSR propaganda
What happened in the Suez Crisis?
-Nasser gained power in 1954, nationalising it and wanted control of the Suez canal which was controlled by an Anglo-French company
-Britain France and Israel made a plan for Israel to invade Egypt and for France and Britain to be peacemakers and take back the canal
-Naser was saved by the Americans with Briain humiliated internationally for trying to be imperialist
What were the consequences of the Suez Crisis?
-Britain were interracially humiliated with the USA and the USSR publicly condemning their actions
-Eisenhower was furious they didn’t consul him before taking military action
Suez ended up getting controlled by the UN
Khrushchev took credit for keeping peace over imperialists
