The World Flashcards

1
Q

What was wegeners theory?

A

He believes the world used to have one super continent. He found similar fossils on different continents. The continents also matched like a jigsaw and there was matching layers of rock in the continents.

Q

What was wrong with wegeners theory and was it correct?

A

People said it was impossible and didn’t believe him because he wasn’t a proper scientist. He wasn’t right about everything but the main idea was correct.

Q

What was phase one of the atmosphere?

A

The earths surface was molten but cooled creating a crust. Volcanos were frequent and released gas causing the atmosphere to be formed. Co2 and water vapour were the main gases and the water condensed and caused oceans.

Q

What was phase 2 of the atmosphere?

A

Plants and algae formed, co2 dissolved into the ocean. Co2 also got absorbed into plants and through photosynthesis oxygen was formed. Plants died and the carbon inside them got locked in once buried. This then created rocks and fossil fuels.

Q

What was phase 3 of the atmosphere?

A

Oxygen allowed complex organisms to evolve. The oxygen also created the ozone layer and there was hardly any co2 left.

Q

What was the primordial soup theory?

A

The gases In the earths atmosphere mixed because of a lightening strike forming amino acids. The amino acids combined and produced organic matter which evolved into microorganisms.
