The Working Memory Model (WMM) Flashcards

1
Q

What is the wmm?

A

The WMM,baddeley and hitch,1974 is an explanation of how short term memory is organised and how it functions

Q

what is the central executive?

A

the central executive (CE) has a supervisory role, it monitors incoming data and divides our limited attention and allocates subsystems to tasks

Q

what is a strength of the WMM?

A

clinical evidence

support from Tim shallice and Elizabeth warringtons research on the case study of a patient KF,after a brain injury KF had poor stm ability for auditory(sound) information but could process visual information normally.

For instance his immediate recall of letters and digits was better when he read them (visual) rather than when he where to hear, when being read to him(acoustic).

KFs phonological loop was damaged but his Visiospatial sketchpad was still in tact, this strongly supports the idea of separate visiospatial and acoustic memory stores

Q

Limitation of the WMM?

A

it is unclear whether KF had other cognitive impairments, which may have affected his performance on memory tasks, questioning the validity of there research
