What happened after Germany lost Tunisia ?
More British army expeditions
- American and British dove Ed invaded and captured Sicily and landed in south Italy
- long campaign through Italy distracting allies from major task of defeating Germany
- kept more British troops occupied than German troops leaving burden on Russia
- Churchill admired Sir Alexander for his persistence in a slow advance and gentlemanly style of leadership
How was the invasion of France seen ?
Little enthusiasm despite Russia urging it
- Brooke believed it might not succeed and lead to heavy casualties
- WSC planned it for summer 1944
How did the planning of d day go about ?
US General Eisenhower placed in charge causing Brooke to be annoyed
General Morgan planned much of the invasion but received little credit and WSC showed little appreciation
Monty remained WSC favorite
British forces faced little resistance compared to the US at D day on 6 June 1944
