The turn coordinator Flashcards

1
Q

Turn and slip coordinator

A
  • Needle and Ball
  • Needle Indicates approximate RATE OF TURN
-Alignment of needle with “L” or “R” indicates it will make a 360 degree turn in 2 minutes.
  • Inclinometer indicates whether or not turn is coordinated (level of centrifugal forces versus horizontal component of lift)

Q

The standard rate of turn

A
  • The standard rate turn is a turn that changes its heading 3 degrees every second.
  • 180-degree turn is made in 1 minute
  • 360-degree turn is made in 2 minutes.
  • Also known as “rate 1” turn.

Q

Important note on operation

A
  • Most modern-day TC‟s are electrically powered
  • If TC‟s are electrically powered, a failure will be indicated by a failure flag.
  • Always STEP ON THE BALL!
  • The inclinometer does not rely on suction pressure or electrical power
  • Rate 1 turns are used in advanced phases of flight
