1.They were kept below the deck where it was hard to breathe. Many times they were near suffocation, from the need of fresh air.

A

Due to the south having MUCH more slaves than the North, they demanded that each enslaved person be counted along with whites. However, this meant that the North has less presentation, therefore in order to resolve this issue they agreed that each enslaved person would count as three-fifths of a person.
