The Three Means of Transport Flashcards
What is diffusion also known as?
Passive transport
What is diffusion (passive transport)?
Substances spread from regions of high concentration to low, until equilibrium is reached so the same concentration is everywhere.
There are two kinds of diffusion;
simple diffusion and facilitated diffusion
What is simple diffusion?
Simple diffusion through lipid bilayer ( O2 and CO2 move this way in or out of a cell)
What is facilitated diffusion?
Facilitated diffusion through transport proteins (water, fatty acids, glucose, urea)
What is active transport?
Energy is expended to move substances from region of low concentration to high concentration. It is through transport proteins (amino acids, and ions)
What is no transport?
Large molecules can’t permeate (diffuse) (polysaccharides, protiens, large fat molecules)
What are the three means of transport?
Diffusion (Simple and Facilitated)
Active Transport
No Transport
