The Test Quizz - Fault Rectification Flashcards
In the event of a power failure, how can battery power be conserved?
Reverser to NEUTRAL Master controller key to OFF Switch headlights OFF Cab Lighting to off (If safe to do so) Saloon to emergency (If safe to do so) Ensure step light is off (Close door)
Where are the circuit breakers located on the x’trap?
Motor cars, B side cabinet
Trailer cars to the left of door 2
Electric box
Which of the fault lights should illuminate if a circuit breaker trips?
Major 1, 2 or minor
Where should a driver perform a fault rectification train stable while in running?
Once the TC has been contact, A station protected by home signals where there is no level crossing that will remain active for the duration.
How long should you stable a train for a rectification?
2 minutes
What would you tell passengers if you were performing a stable for rectification?
“Passengers, I will be turning the train off for a short period of time during which the doors will remain closed and the lights will dim”
If another cab operative light is on, how will you locate the motor?
Press cab 2 cab (hopefully some chap is sleeping in a cab)
Go to each cab, looking for keys/cleaner keys and looking for the cab with no “other cab operative” light active
While in each cab insert your keys, as this may reset the issue.
If you cannot find another key, and starting each cab does not solve the “other cab operative” fault. What else may you try?
What do you do if that doesn’t work?
- Stable the train
- Train disabled and requires a rescue or to be driven with a CE
What must be done prior to coasting over a tramway or under an obstruction?
Stop the train, perform a panto test
If, while attempting to coast under an obstruction, the train does not travel a sufficient distance when coasting under the obstruction, what must be done to move the train?
Raise the local pantograph
Drag the back 3 units past the obstruction then raise the trailing panto.
An assisting train may be required from the front if you are unable to raise the local panto
If the emergency brake has applied and cannot get it to release, what items would you check?
- ESB (in any cab)
- Hand/Foot pilot valve
- VICERS
- Main res fallen below 580kpa
- BP falls below 300 kpa
- Trip
- EMS in 2
- 110v in the safety loop
- 23Q1 and 23Q2
- 2 keys (other cab active)
What functions would be lost if the speed threshold can’t be read?
- Door release
- Uncouple
- Charge brake pipe, in a rescue
- Trip reset
- Speedo may or may not work
How many speed sensors/tachos do we need functioning on a 6 car train to read the speed threshold?
1
What are the 4 positions of the door isolation switch?
- 1 Motor release
- 2 Motor Isolate
- 3 Normal
- 4 Motor lock and close
Where are door isolation switches located?
to the left of every door.
What indication will you get in the drivers cab if a DER has been activated?
Red ANSR flashing
Blue FDCL
DDU beep
DER activated status light
How do you reset a DER
Locate the activated DER using the DDU
Go to the DER, use tri key (anticlockwise)
Where is the 3 way panto isolation switch?
In the cabinet to the right of door 4, in the trailer car. (end 2 durr)
If panto fails to raise what is the first thing that you should check?
Check the volts, above 90
If there is no voltage on the voltmeter, what could be the cause?
- Battery is completely flat (Unlikely to be 0 due to a flat)
- Battery is isolated, Driver may check but not touch. Call Fleet if isolated
- Fuse, you may only assume
If the voltage on the voltmeter is under 90v what happens?
- Call TC, declare the train disabled
If above 90v and the panto is not raising what should the driver check?
- Check the Latch is not sad (depressed)
Go to trailer affected - Check the circuit breakers, looking at Panto 1/2
- Check the 3 way switch
