Q

If another cab operative light is on, how will you locate the motor?

A

Press cab 2 cab (hopefully some chap is sleeping in a cab)
Go to each cab, looking for keys/cleaner keys and looking for the cab with no “other cab operative” light active
While in each cab insert your keys, as this may reset the issue.

Q

If you cannot find another key, and starting each cab does not solve the “other cab operative” fault. What else may you try?

What do you do if that doesn’t work?

A
  • Stable the train

Raise the local pantograph

Drag the back 3 units past the obstruction then raise the trailing panto.

An assisting train may be required from the front if you are unable to raise the local panto

Q

If there is no voltage on the voltmeter, what could be the cause?

A
  • Battery is completely flat (Unlikely to be 0 due to a flat)

Q

What are the 3 positions of the panto manual control switch?

A
  • Automatic
  • Manual raise
  • Manual lower and isolate
24
Q

If the switch is in the lower/isolate position, what should you do?

A

Call TC, No touchy

25
Q

How do you isolate a pantograph?

A
  • Stable your train
  • go to trailer and move 3 way switch to manual lower and isolate

If stabling didn’t lower the panto you will have to use the hand crank to lower

26
Q

What are the circuit breakers in the trailer car/

A
PAPA-TB
Panto 1
Aux 1
Panto 2
Aux 2
Tachy
BCU
27
Q

Which of the 2 traction fault lights act as a “this car only” light?

A
  • Traction Fault (this indicates it’s in the car you’re in)

- 1 or more traction faults. (This illuminates everytime, unless you isolate the effected cab)

28
Q

What does the traction isolate switch do?

A

Removes the traction fault light so if any other motor car has a traction fault the 1 or more traction light will appear again.

29
Q

What immediate action is required if you see the 2 traction fault lights in your cab?

A

When the train is in coast, turn the traction isolate to isolate.

30
Q

If no high voltage presence light, but no other fault, what should driver do?

A

Lamps test then Stable

31
Q

What will be lost if both SIVS fail on a 3 car unit?

A

BATH

32
Q

What should the driver do if you get AUX fault light?

A

Stable

33
Q

If you lost both SIVs can the battery charger from the trailing 3 car unit, can you charge the back 3 from the leading units?

A

No

34
Q

How do you determine if there is a failure of the permanent low voltage line?

A
  • Cab Fluro
  • Step Light
  • Key in to see if panto raises
35
Q

What action is required if the battery charger fault light illuminates?

A
  • Stable train, if this doesn’t fix disabled train.
36
Q

If you receive a bogie isolated status light, how do you locate the isolated bogie or defective sensor?

A

Check the ECB LED’s on the outside of the train. (checking for a green light where is should be red)

37
Q

What indications would you get if sticking brakes?

A

If in motion, wheel slip and 1 or more service brakes light

Smell, smoke, train feels sluggish etc.

38
Q

What actions do you take for sticking brakes?

A

Isolate the bogie, if this works you write TMM/FWN + sticker

If stuck, proceed as per stuck wheel

39
Q

What does a service brake fault light indicate?

A

That the BCU has detected something wrong, lol

40
Q

How do you reset the service brake?

A

Master controller to full service
EMS to 1
Master controller to coast then back to full service.

If issue persist, try stabling.

41
Q

At what pressure will the safety loop open when the main res falls?

A

580kpa

42
Q

What pressure when the main res is rising will the fault light extinguish?

A

650kpa

43
Q

When will the air compressor fault light illuminate?

A

Any air compressor fault that is not to do with SIVs, mechanical failures.

44
Q

When would you operate the compressor governor isolating cock?

A

When there is a rupture between the compressor gov and the main res

45
Q

What affect will isolating the compressor have?

A

The air compressor will stay in the state that it is in.

46
Q

If there is a main res rupture, under which cars could the train be operated without the help of a CE?

A

Centre cabs, because you sandwich yourself.

47
Q

What actions do you take if the trip fails to lower?

A
  • Check Aux Panel to check if the Trip cock device is isolated. (Reinstate if so)
  • Raise the trip + Auto vigilance bypass
48
Q

What actions would you take if the trip fails to raise in the lead and trailing motors?

A

Lead - Run the train, boom TMM

Trailing - Isolate the TCD, Tie it up and TMM

49
Q

What actions if your trip fails to reset?

A
  • Check to see if other fault lights are illuminated, if so act accordingly.
  • Check the trip cock device reset in the aux panel
  • Manually reset the trip
  • If all else fails, raise and run with the auto-vig bypassed.
50
Q

If horn not working what can you do?

A
  • Wiggle the horn on and off a bunch
  • Check the VICERS isolate cocks in the A side cabinet
  • Check Aux panel horn Isolate
51
Q

If horn operating continuously, what are the drivers actions?

A
  • Wiggle the horn on and off a bunch

- Isolate VICERS horns one at a time (You may get 1 horn to work normally)

52
Q

What fault lights would a driver get if the Brake control unit circuit breaker tripped

A
  • Major 1/2 or Minor
  • Service brake
  • 1 or more service brakes
53
Q

What does a 24V convert fault and minor fault light indicate to the driver?

A

That 1 or more of the 24v SIVs (from the 110V) is down

54
Q

What will happen in an active cab if a second controller key is inserted in another motor car?

A
  • “Other cab operative light” appears
  • Safety loop de-engergises applying E-brake
  • Major/minor fault light may come on as 23Q1/2 trip
55
Q

How is the vicers system reset after the activation?

A
  • Come to a stop
  • Wait 10s
  • Acknowledge
