Plaque is made up of food particles , saliva and bacteria.It builds up on the tooth,especially in hard to reach places such as between the teeth and on the gum line.

What will happen if plaque/tartar is not removed?

If plaque/tartar is not removed, it produces acids which attack the tooth enamel.The enamel will eventually wear away,leaving just the dentine.
