Who were the spartacists?
A communist group set up by Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Leibknecht
Why did the revolution happen?
The spartacists wanted a full scale revolution like the Russian revolution of 1917. They did not trust the government.
What did the spartacists believe about Ebert?
They thought he would not improve the lives of working people
What did the spartacists do in Berlin as part of the revolution?
They took over the governments newspaper and telegraph HQ.
What happened instead of people joining in?
The government sent the army and the freikorps (ex soldiers) who were anti communist. The fighting killed over 100 workers.
Why was the uprising unsuccessful?
It was badly planned. The spartacists did not get support from other left wing groups.
What happened to Rosa luxemburg?
She was shot by freikorps and dumped in a canal.
What happened to Karl leibnecht?
He was murdered.
What happened to the spartacists without their main leaders?
They were defeated.
