Who was involved?
The Spartacist League, a communist group set up by Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht.
What was the reason for the rebellion that links to the Russain Revolution?
Spartacists wanted a full scale Communist revolution like the recent Russain revolution in 1917.
Why didn’t they trust the government?
They thought that Ebert would not improve the lives of working people.

What did they take over in Berlin?
The government’s newspaper and telegraph headquarters.
What happened when they tried to take over buildings?
The protesters didn’t join them. The government ordered the army to stop the revolt, who were helped by units of the Freikorps (units of ex soldier anti communists.) In the fighting that followed, over 100 workers were killed.
Why wasn’t it successful?
The uprising was badly planned. They didn’t get any support from groups.
What happened to Rosa Luxemburg?
She was captured by the Freikorps and shot. Her body was dumped in the Berlin canal.
What happened to Karl Liebknecht?
He was also murdered. Without their main leaders, the Spartacists were defeated.
