Q

Temporal bone. What are the 4 parts and explain them.

A

Squamous- thin and flat

Mastoid- (breast) sinus connects to middle ear. Connects with nasal pharynx.

Zygomatic process- posterior part of cheek

Petrous- houses inner ear

Q

Sphenoid

A

Keystone of the floor. Sphenoid sinus. Forms lateral wall of the orbit. Called Turkish saddle because of the 4 Clinoid processes. Pituitary gland sits between the saddle.

Q

Maxilla in detail

A

Upper jaw (keystone of face)

  • all facial bones touch it except mandible
  • has a zygomatic process
  • entering roof of mouth is formed by maxilla

16
Q

Cheek bones are mad up of?

A

Zygomatic process of the maxilla, zygomatic bones, and the zygomatic process of the temporal

17
Q

Palatine bones

A

Forms posterior roof of mouth

18
Q

Inferior conch

How many? What?

A

(2) inferior lateral nasal cavity

19
Q

Vomer

A

Medial nasal cavity (septum)

20
Q

Mandible

A

Lower jaw, the only moveable joint in skull

21
Q

Coronoid process

A

Forms temporal mandible joint (TM)

22
Q

Hyoid

A

U SHAPED, anterior I f neck, inferior to mandible, superior to larynx (Adams apple)

  • no bones attachments only muscle
23
Q

Vertebral column

A

Moveable

  • 7 cervical
  • 12 thoracic
  • 5 lumbar

Immovable

  • 5 sacrum
  • 5 coccyx
24
Q

Accentuated thoracic curve

A

Kyphosis

Hunch back

25
Accentuated lumber curve
Lordosis Sway back
26
Accentuated lateral curve (side ways)
Scoliosis
27
Cervical 1 (C1)
Aka atlas, articular with occipital bone and C2. It has no body.
28
Cervical 2
Body of C1 fuses to body of C2. This is called the odontoid process.
29
Thoracic V.
Has facets for ribs; longer spines
30
Lumber V
Largest bodies; most weight baring
31
Fused sacrum and coccyx V
Immovable section
32
Intervertebral discs. | What's it made of
In between bodies of vertebrae - rings of fibril cartilage aka annuals fibrosis Nucleus pulposus - jelly like center of disc
33
Thoracic cavity
Sternum Costal cartilage Ribs Bodies of thoracic vertebrae
