How did it start?
James’ only hope of winning his throne back was with the Catholic Irish, in 1689 he landed in kinsale. Protestant landowners sent messages to William asking for his help against James and his army (jacobites). William saw this as an opportunity to defeat James and the French and protect his Dutch republic. William landed in Ireland in 1689.

What were the conditions like in the city?
They were in great need, they had nothing left unless they could prey upon one and other.
They drank nothing but water which was dangerous to get

They were in great danger when bombs were thrown were thrown in the day as it was hard to see them.
The cold and want of rest and food caused disease and fevers of which great numbers died.
How did it end?
On Sunday 28 july 1689 williamite ships broke through the boom on the river and sailed up to the city, despite cannon fire from both tanks.
3 days later the Jacobites withdrew and the siege of Derry which lasted for 105 days, ended.
