Q

How did it start?

A

James’ only hope of winning his throne back was with the Catholic Irish, in 1689 he landed in kinsale. Protestant landowners sent messages to William asking for his help against James and his army (jacobites). William saw this as an opportunity to defeat James and the French and protect his Dutch republic. William landed in Ireland in 1689.
When the apprentice boys in Derry heard that a catholic regiment was on its way they closed the gates.
