-Britain smaller than France; to boost size of Army, Britain paid Prussia to send soldiers; Royal Navy 1/3 larger than France’s
-In India, Clive of India beat French at Battle of Plassey.
-In America, Admiral Hawke beat French at Quiberon Bay in 1759.
Attitudes and responses
-Ended in Treaty of Paris in 1763 - marked beginning of British Empire’s dominance in North America;also created number of problems that would lead to the American Revolution.
-Britain took control of Canada/large parts of present day USA and larger parts of India
-British people support it because they are winning battles
Impact on people
-direct, indirect, cultural
-recruitment for Army/Navy ->propaganda used to pressure people/appeal to patriotism
-higher taxes ->increased trade would eventually lead to greater wealth
-ability to industrialise/modernise
-more pro-British and anti-French
