-Britain/Russia created ‘Balance of Power’ in 1815
>balance maintained/war prevented because of 19th century equivalent to Cold War
-‘The Great Game’ - rivalry between British and Russian Empires over influence in Asia, primarily Afghanistan, Persia and Tibet.
>Britain was industrialised, literate, democratic, while Russia was illiterate, pre-industrialised, un-democratic.
