What is the semiotic tradition?
A sign -> interpretation, cultural…
The study of signs. Signs are a part of social life, they stand for something.
What is the cybernetic tradition?
We are systems, we organize -> information processing.. “no man is an island”
Cybernetics is the tradition of complex systems in which interacting elements influence one another
What is the rhetorical tradition?
Influence of speech in the public. To inform, to entertain, to persuade.
What is the socio-pshychogical tradition?
Cause -> effect
The person behind the roles.
Our own communication patterns and the patterns of others vary from from person to another
What is the critical tradition?
Oppresstion, injustice -> what we take for granted, and what to do about (ACTION)
What is the socio-cultural tradition?
We are part of groups -> co-creation of social order… Between people we create culture.
Our everyday interactions with others depend heavily on pre-existing, shared cultural patterns and social structures
What is the phenomenological tradition?
Personal interpretation.
Phenomenology is the way in which human beings come to understand the world thorugh direct experience – the perception of a phenomenon, whether an object, event, or condition.

Socio-cultural, semiotic and critical tradition.
Elaborate on the socio-cultural tradition
In focus on the patterns of social interaction.
This is about roles, rules and cultural values.
People create the reality together, in social groups, cultures and organizations.
Meaning is created in social interaction.
We are individuals, but we function in groups.
Elaborate on the critical tradition
It focuses on power, oppression and privilige.
We have to understand the taken for granted, and it seeks to uncover the oppressive social conditions.
It is concerned with power structures; ideologies/beliefs a we go behind commercials –> see the oppression in commercial –> we promote the emancipation –> we go behind commercials.
Elaborate on the semiotic tradition
It focus upon the signs and their function. Meaning is achieved when we share common language.
The relationship between the sign/object/the meaning
-> the triangle of meaning.
