Define Social Motivation
A learned physical drive that we gain through our family, society and cultural upbringing.
Define Goals
Cognitive representations of future outcomes that an individual is committed to approach or avoid.
Define Motivation
The underlying processes that provide energy and direction for behaviours.
What is the Three-Step Process to Achieve a Goal?
- Choose a particular goal
- Develop an action plan
- Intiate an persist a goal-directed action.
Why Study Motivation?
Determine what drives our own behaviour and the behaviours of others
Define Self-Control
The voluntary regulation of our own thoughts, emotions, and behaviours (immediate gratification v/s important long term goals).
What Is the Correlational Method?
Research in which two or more variables are measured and compared to determine to what extent, if any, they are associated.
What Are Longitudinal Studies
Studies in which variables are measured in the same individuals over two or more periods of time.
What Is the Experimental Design?
A study in which a researcher manipulates a variable, measures possible effects on another variable and tries to hold all other variables constant.
What Are the Methods of Measurement
Self-report methods and observational methods.
