The role of technology in physical activity and sport Flashcards
1
Q
what is sport analytics
A
- the analysis of sports data using analytical tooks and methods
- subjected to procedures in order to improve results
- e.g analysing clubhead speed in gold
2
Q
what is qualatative data
A
- emotions, perceptions and feelings
- can be used in questioaires, interviews and observations
- good for sports psychology as it explores issues that are affecting preformance such as mental health and anxiety
3
Q
what is quantatative data
A
- factual information, number or data
- usually compared to a pervious prefomrance, other atheletes or a standard model
- e.g such as VO2 max scores, distance run in a cooper run, heart rates and blood lactate
4
Q
what is objective data
A
- fact based information which is measureable and useable
- e.g the level achievean the multistage fitness test which links to a VO2 max score
5
Q
what is subjective data
A
data based on personal opinion which is less measureable and often used less
6
Q
what is reliabiliity
A
- ensuring that the data recorded is accurate and making sure that it is repeatable
7
Q
what is validity
A
- assessing the usefullness of the data
- e.g does this measure what we want it to measure ie. BMII tests of obesiety
8
Q
what is dartfish
A
- a vidoe software which enables individuals to view, edit, style and analyse vidoes of technique
- e.g running style
9
Q
what is prozone
A
- can be used to analyse and improve player preformance via use of high definition cameras which provide detiled preformer analysis
- provides to tag or code the video with a players actions, and delivers results to the coach/preformer after the matc via PA software (e.g number of tackles made)
10
Q
what is indirect calorimetry
A
- a technique where headgear is attached to a subject while they breathe for a spersific amount of time
- their inspired and expired gas flows, volumes and concentrations of O2 and CO2 are measured
- non-invasive technique which is relitavely accurate
11
Q
what is metabolic cart
A
- meausres body metabolism through amount of heat produced when body is at rest
- uses calorimetry to get this measurement which helps doctors know more about the persons overall health condition
12
Q
what are 3 positives of metabolic cart
A
- helps to determine their energy requirements
- tells us who are classified/potentially obese
- helps to calculate energy expenditure which allows determinaation of nutrional requrements
13
Q
what are 3 negatives of metabolic cart
A
- inaccuracies from air leaks
- difficult to use on children
- possible inaccuracied form measurements/recording errors
14
Q
what is REE (resting energy expenditure
A
the amount of energy, usally expressed in Kcal, required for a 24 hour period by the body during rest
- to calculate: (10xweight) + (6.25xheight) - (5xage) - 16.1
