the study of that which allows individuals and communities to flourish and thrive. does not disregard the negative but focuses on amplifying well-being through positive affect, engagement and meaning.

Eudaimonia
concerned with living well or actualizing one’s human potentials.
fulfilling one’s virtuous potentials and living as one was inherently intended to live
Hedonia
well being created by maximizing one’s happiness and characterized by the presence of positive emotions and expressions, the absence of negative emotions and expressions and the satisfaction of desires.
How does having a purpose in life mitigate disease risk?
a strongly articulated purpose in life was associated with a reduction in mortality amoung eldery patients in the community.
those with a life purpose were less likely to be diagnoses with Alzheimer’s or mild cognitive impairment and slower rate cognitive decline.
older individuals with a higher levels of purpose of life were less likely to have strokes and heart attacks and more likely to participate in preventive labs/ screening exams
ppl with chronic conditions with higher levels of purpose in life and positive relationships had lower levels of inflammatory makers interleukin-6 and CRP
Eudaimonia is associated with gene regulation, pro-inflammaotry genes are down regulated.

Negative effects of social media use
social media use is associated with poor sleep, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.
