The right to life
The right to be protected by law. There are a certain limited circumstances where it is acceptable for the state to take away someone’s life.
The probation of torture
The right of individuals not to be tortured or subjected to treatment or punishment which is inhuman or degrading.
The prohibitition of slavery and forced labour
Individuals have the right not to be treated as a slave or forced to preform certain types of labour.
The right to fair trial
Has the right to a fair hearing which covers criminal charges, criminal rights and obligations. All hearing must not be biased. All individuals are innocent until proven guilty and they also have the right to defend themselves
No punishment without law
This covers protection of those who may have committed actions which are now considered as criminal, it also protects people against later increased sentences.
The right to respect for private and family life
Everyone has the right to have family life respected, this right can only be overridden in special circumstances.
Right of thought, conscience and religion
Allows individuals to have a broad range of views beliefs and thoughts, including religious faiths.
Freedom of expression
Home has the right to hold opinions and express their views within a group. This includes unpopular or disturbing views or beliefs, this can be restricted in certain circumstances for example causing breach of the peace.
The right to marry
Everyone has the right to marry and start a family but the law still covers at what age this can take place.
Prohibition of discrimination
Individuals have the right not to be treated differently because of their race,religion,sex,political views or any other status.
