. Sometimes boarding schools were established on Reservations.
. The education provided by these schools gave some Natives the opportunity to find jobs and employment.
. There Reservations allowed the Native Americans to continue their tribal customs and beliefs.
What were the disadvantages of the Reservations for Native Americans?
. Natives were unable to cultivate much of the land given to them due to its poor quality.
. This made Natives largely depend on food supplies from the government which often failed to appear as a result starvation was a near constant threat.
. Due to the availability of whisky and other alcohol, alcohol addiction became widespread.
. Because Native Americans did not pay taxes they were considered ‘Wards of the state’ and as a result did not have access to civil rights.
