What was the Act in Restraint of Annates and when was it passed?
Tries to put pressure on the Pope by removing his grip on finance - first direct attack on church of Rome
Ends the payment of annates to Rome - too much of a burden on bishops and took too much money out of the realm. (FINANCE)
What were annates?
Payment all bishops made to Rome before they were confirmed in their sees - represented significant portion of a bishop’s yearly income, also one of the more important sources of papal revenue from England
