The Rate Of Photosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

How does light slow down the rate of photosynthesis

A

Light provides the energy for photosynthesis
As the light level is increased, the rate of photosynthesis increases steadily but only up to a certain point
Beyond that, the rate will no longer increase because either the temp of co2 level will be a limiting factor

Q

How does too little carbon dioxide slow down the rate

A

Co2 one of raw materials needed for photosynthesis

Amount of co2 will only increase the rate to a certain point hence co2 is no longer the limiting factor, temp is

Q

What does the temperature have to be like

A

Limiting factor of temp because it’s too low - enzymes needed for photosynthesis work more slowly at low temperature
If too hot - enzymes needed for photosynthesis will be damaged (45 degrees)

Q

How does a graph show the limiting factors of light intensity and temperature

A

At the start, the rate increases steadily as light intensity increases
But lines level off when light is no longer the limiting factor
The line that levels off at a higher point shows that temperature must of been the limiting factor

Q

How does a graph show the limiting factors of light intensity and co2 concentration

A

Both lines level off when light is no longer the limiting factor
Both lines level off when light is no longer the limiting factor
The line at a higher point means that co2 concentration was a limiting factor

Q

How to greenhouses maintain the temperature so it doesn’t become limiting

A

Trap sun’s heat
Winter - gardener might use a heater to keep the temperature at the ideal level
Summer- might use ventilation or shades to cool

Q

How can farmers increase the leaves of carbon dioxide in the greenhouse

A

By using a paraffin heater to heat, as it burns it makes carbon dioxide as a by product
