Excercise Flashcards
What happens during exercise to your body
Reacts to increase the demand for energy
What do muscles need to get more energy
Need energy from respiration to contract
When you increase respiration in the cells what do you need more of
Oxygen
What 3 things increase to get more oxygen into the blood
- Breathing rate
- Breath volume
To get more oxygen in the blood - Heart rate - to get the oxygenated blood around the body faster, this removed co2 as well
What does anaerobic respiration leads to
Insufficient oxygen leads to incomplete oxidation of glucose and causes a build up of lactic acid and can be painful
What happens during long periods of vigorous activity
Muscles become fatigued and stop contracting efficiently
What is oxygen debt
Amount of extra oxygen your body needs to react with the build up lactic acid to remove it from the cells
How does your body cope with high level of lactic acid
Breathing rate and pulse rate stay high to get more oxygen into your blood which is transported to the muscle cells
What happens to the blood flowing through muscles
It transports the lactic acid to the liver where it is converted back into glucose
How could you measure breathing rate
Counting breaths
Taking the pulse
