Constitutional powers are written in the constitution
- Act as a commander in chief of the armed forces
- Conduct foreign affairs
- Nominate federal judges
- Veto Legislation
- Pardon (anyone convicted or accused of a federal crime) (cant pardon if impeached)
Commander in chief of the armed forces: What are the constitutional limits on this power that
we discussed?
-The Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war.
-The Constitution gives Congress the power to build an army and navy.
-The Constitution gives Congress the power of the purse. (congress funds the military)
What is a standing military?
A standing army is a professional fighting force that is always present and ready.

The president cannot pardon someone who has been impeached.
