- Just alkali
- Some acid is added but the alkali reacts with it and the pH remains high
- This continues until enough acid is added to neutralise the mixture (pH 7) and the acid and alkali
- As soon as more acid is added the mixture turns acidic
- The pH begins to level off as more acid is adde to the mixture
