4
Q

Why are noble gases generally u reactive

A

Because they have full outer shells (they don’t loose or gain electrons so do not participate in reactions)

Q

Diffusion

A

The spreading out of particles in a gas or liquid .

They move from a region where they are high concentration to low.

Q

Group 1 elements - lithium, sodium and potassium

A

All these metals react with water to produce a metal hydroxide and hydrogen.
Metal + cold water -> metal hydroxide + hydrogen

7
Q

Sodiums reaction with water

A

The sodium floats because it is less dense than water.
It melts because it’s melting point is low and a lot of heat is produced by the reaction.
Because the hydrogen isn’t given off symmetrically around the hall, the sodium is passed around the surface of the water.
The white trail is formed in the sodium hydroxide, which dissolved to make a strongly alkaline solution
