relative formula masses and molar volumes of gases Flashcards
What is relative formula mass
Mr is relative formula mass, it is the mass of a molecule.
What is the calculation for relative formula mass
(number of that element in the molecule x relative atomic mass) + (number of that element in the molecule x relative atomic mass) = relative formula mass
What is relative atomic mass
Ar is relative atomic mass, it is the average mass of an atom of a specific element.
What is a mole
A mole is an amount. Having one mole of something is having 6.022 x 10^23 of it.
What s a mole also known as
A mole is also known as Avogadro’s number (or the Avogrado number of particles in a substance)
What is significant about having 1 mole of an element
If you have 1 mole of an element its weight in grams will be equal to its atomic mass.
What is the relationship between moles, mass and relative formula mass
Mass = Mr x moles
At a standard temperature and pressure, what volume will one mole of any gas occupy
At standard temperature and pressure, one mole of any gas will occupy 24000 cm^3; also known as 24dm^3.
What is the relationship between amount of gas, volume of gas and molar volume of gas
amount of gas (mol) = volume of gas (dm^3) / molar volume of gas (dm^3mol^-1)
