Q

Describe how scientists work using historical examples

A

Scientists work to discover new things and learn how they work. They come up with theories and experiments to prove things like the theories on atoms. Ernest Rutherford conducted several experiments and came to the model of the atom we know today

Q

Summarise Ernest Rutherford’s discovery on the atom

A

In 1909 Ernest Rutherford undertook a series of experiments. He fired alpha particles at a thin sheet of gold . Most of the alpha particles did not change direction as most of the atom is empty space. It would only Change direction if it hit the nucleus

Q

How do you use the atomic number and mass to work out the number of protons electrons and neutrons in an atom

A

The number of protons and electrons is the the attic number and you take the atomic number away from the atomic mass and you have your number of neutrons
