A

Very close to the front line,sometimes in the firing trench. Mostly bandage light wounds/would be dug out into the trenches.

Motor Ambulance

A

Where all serious cases were sent, along with casualty clearing stations. Driven by either motor or horses.

Casualty Clearing Stations

A

The first large well equipped medical facility the wounded would see. Situated around 12 miles from the fighting in a series of large tents.

Hospital Train

A

Usually civilian hospitals near railways so patients could be converted quickly.

Base Hospitals

A

The final stage of treatment. From the base hospitals most were sent back to Britain by train. Others would be sent to convalescent before returning to the fighting units.
