What is the park models aim

A

to show how hazard events have varying impacts over time. Shows how people’s quality of life is likely to change through different phases of a disaster from stage 1 to stage 5

What is stage 1 of park’s model

A

Occurs before the hazard (pre-disaster) where the quality of life is at normal levels and people work to prepare by educating the local population about what to do:

  • stockpiling supplies
  • putting medical teams on standby

What is stage 2

A

occurs at the same time as the hazard event.
Quality of life of the local pop dramatically deteriorates and people respond with methods of protection e.g. erecting barricades and evacuation

What is stage 3

A

In the hours and days after the hazard the relief effort occurs. This includes the immediate local and possibly global response in the form of aid, expertise, search and rescue

A

rehabilitation phase where people attempt to return the quality of life to normal levels. This may include providing food and water supplies or shelter for those who are deprived of these basic human needs
