What is the parable about
A rich man who has everything he wants in life.But he never gave any food or money to help the poor,homeless man called Lazarus who lay at his gates outside his house.When both men died,the rich man went to hell and the homeless man went to heaven.In hell, the rich man calls out for Abraham who is in heaven.
Showing love and kindness to others will lead people to heaven.How is this shown in the parable ?
By not showing love and kindness to Lazarus,the rich man went to hell
Wealth can make it easier to forget the needs of other.How is this seen in the parable ?
The rich man “feasted sumptously every day” but didn’t share any with Lazarus.He didn’t use his wealth to help others,so went to hell.
Hell is a place of torment and agony where people are cut off from God.How is this seen in the parable?
The torment and suffering of hell is shown by the rich man pleading for some water; he says he is “in agony in these flames”
People in hell are concious and aware of others in heaven.How is this shown in the parable?
In hell, the rich man is aware that both Abraham and Lazarus are in heaven.This shows that people in hell are aware of the happiness of others in heaven.This increases their suffering.
It is not possible for people to move between heaven and hell.How is this seen in the parable ?
Abraham tells the rich man that there is a “great chasm” between heaven and hell.It is not possible to cross from one to another.This shows that people can’t escape hell by apologising.A person can’t escape hell.Stuck in eternal frustration,anger and agony.
Having faith in God and following Jesus’ teachings freely will lead people to heaven.
The rich man asks Abraham to send someone from the dead to warn others on earth that heaven and hell are real,But Abraham says “if they do not listen to Moses and the prophets,neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead “ Everything people need to know are in the scriptures.If they don’t have faith in God they will go to hell.
