Anointing a sick person with holy oil
Sacramwnt begins with the priest sprinkling the room and patient with Holy water.Why
As a reminder of baptism
The priest lays their hands on the head of the sick person.Calling the power of Holy Spirit.Why ?
Holy Spirit fills the person with a sense of peace,and the stength to resist temptation.
Also gives them courage to overcome the doubt and despair.
The priest blesses the small amount of oil then he anoints the forehead and hands the sick person the oil. Why?
Through the anointing,the priest asks God for his help.The anointing also gives hope of new life, whether this is a restoration to full health in this life or the promise of eternal happiness with God
Sick person confesses their sins to the priest.Why?
The person can face the future with a clear conscience and less worries which helps them feel more positive
Holy Communion is given to them.Why?
Shows that Christ is present with them.Supporting them through their illness
Whatis a Commendation of the dying
A short service centred around the dying person recieving Holy Communion fir the last time
The person may hold a crucifix.Why?
They are sharing in Christ’s death.
A bible reading and prayer are given.Including a Litany of the Saints.Why ?
Assures the person God is with them.
The Litany of the Saints asks the saints for their prayers as the dying person faces God’s judgment.
At the moment of death a prayer might be said.Why?
Expresses hope that the person will be able to go to heaven and experience eternal happiness with God after they die.
