  • Japam afraid if it withdraws it will losses colonies and Japan is using its colonies for resources
  • Japan continues to justify her actions
  • Japan is small and needs more “living space” (nazis used this and Japan adopted it)
  • they justified that since other countries (USA, australlia, canada) wouldnt let asians in they had to go into china (western countries put up tarrifs bc of Japans autrocties)

  • this was followed by tripartide pact (aid if attacked by country not involved in war in europe)

  • Japan didnt want to withdraw bc of fear of loosing colonies
  • jap tried to isolate china (railway)
  • Jap keep up w justfying acts , saying they are helping china and east asia from west influence and effect of imperalism, say they are doing this for good of all asians (including greater asia @time aus and new zeland)
  • 1941- Japan occupied all of french indo china and becomes to much of a threat to US, britan and holland (U.S needed rubber from japan occupied area)
  • 3 countries set total embargo on japan

  • Japan needed oil from US- so hey try and make peace with US
  • japan says they will widraw from indochina and most of china but US rejects
  • Jap says US is being unreasonable
  • so japan comes up w pearl harbour stratgey
  • they think after pearl harbour they can negotiate peace w us and they will lift embrago

Why japan thought that pearl harbour plan would not make US enter war w them

  • USA entered WW1 really late
  • USA retired from intl poltics for “normal life”
  • US public wanted to keep put of war
  • “america first” - US public did not care what was heppening in europe and were stronly against going to war
  • japan thought us would negotiate peace
  • Japan wrong, bc it was suprise attack and US and Jpan were not at wae us has to go to war
  • dec 7 1941- attack on pearl harbour - started state of war w us and japan

This was a conflict between China and Japan that began with the Marco Polo Bridge Incident and eventually merged with World War II. It resulted in massive casualties and destruction in China, as well as Japan’s eventual defeat.

A

These were the two Japanese cities that were bombed by the United States with atomic bombs, resulting in massive destruction and loss of life and ultimately leading to Japan’s surrender and the end of World War II.
