The origins of psychology Flashcards
Who is the father of psychology and what did the pave a way for
Wundt and he paved a way for psychology to be considered as a science. as he was interested in every aspect of the brain
Where was the father of psychology first lab
Wundt first psychology lab was in Germany
What approach did Wundt use and the technique
Wundt used the structuralism approach to understand behaviour by breaking behaviours such as perception into basic elements
What is introspection

and introspection is a examination of your own thought process and breaking it down into basic elements and reflecting on it.
Why is introspection scientific
Introspection is considered scientific because it is conducted in a controlled environment and uses standardised procedures (so every participant are asked the same question the same way
The emergence of psychology as a science
Wundt is considered as the father of psychology as he moved philosophical roots to controlled research, which is has lead now to psychology being considered as a science as it uses empirical methodologies i.e. brain scans , FMRI’s etc that can be physically seen and measured. This has also lead to the development of the biological approach(1980s) and cognitive neuroscience(2000s)
What is one strength of the emergence of psychology
scientific, we can establish a cause-and-effect relationship in psychology.
