the religious faith of muslims. Also the civilization based on the Islamic religion and the group of countries where Islam is the main religion.
Muhammad
a man born around 570c.e. who taught the faith of Islam.
polytheism
belief in more than one god.
prophet
a person who speaks or interprets the words of God.
monotheism
the belief in a single God
Muslim
a follower of the Islamic faith
boycott
a refusal to do business with an organization or group
seige
a military action in which a place is surrounded and cut off to force those inside to surrender.
What did Muhammad and his followers do?
they unified Arabia and created a great empire.`
Describe Makkah (Mecca) around the time of Muhhamad’s birth.
Makkah was located in a valley in western Arabia, like a desert. It was a trading city and became prosperous when Muhammad was born.Everybody trusted Muhammad and called him al-Amin (the Trustworthy) Merchants became rich by trading with Yemen, Seria and Africa. Makkah was a religious center.
Why was the Ka’bah built and how was it used at the time of Muhammad’s birth?
It was built so people could go to worship God.
Explain the ties most Arabs shared during this time. Culture, government, and language.
Most Arabs lived a nomadic life in the desert. The had no government but were loyal to their tribes.So if one tribe killed someone from another tribe they would take revenge. This led to long periods of fighting among tribes. The Arabs were not united as a nation but they shared language, poetry and celebrated their land and history.
