Cold War
Pledged to protect democratic countries and contain the expansion of communism, and was the cornerstone of American foreign policy throughout the Cold War
Truman Doctrine
A plan to provide financial aid to any country experiencing hunger, poverty, desperation, and/or chaos, so long as they applied for aid. The soviets saw this as a hostile act
Marshall Plan
The New Deal, WWII, and the cold war shifted the power balance in the government
Imperial Presidency
A group presided over by the national security adviser and consisting of the secretaries of state, defense, the army, the navy, and the air force, and etc.
National Security Council
The Soviets were blocking supplies to West Berlin so Truman ordered an air lift, and American and British forces air dropped 2.5 million tons worth to West Berlin.
Berlin airlift
Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States.
