Panic over communist inspired radicalism
Red Scare
Named after A. Mitchell Palmer, the attorney General of the U.S., They occurred in over 30 cities. Suspected commies were interrogated without legal counsel, and held without charge
Palmer Raids
Beginning in 1917, over 800,000 Blacks left the south and moved to the north in the hopes that they would escape poverty and racism
Great Migration
May 13 and June 1, 1921, Whites launched a killing spree against blacks. 300 people died, 800 people were injured, 6,000 blacks were arrested
Tulsa Massacre
A plan to weaken unions by promoting voluntary business-sponsored worker welfare intiatives.
American Plan
In 1921, Interior Secretary Albert Fall collaborated with Navy Secretary Edwin Denby to transfer potential oil fileds to the Interior Department. This lead to Harry F. Sinclair’s Mammoth Oil Company received a lease to develop the Teapot Dome Section in Wyoming. Sinclair delivered over $300,000 to Fall
Teapot Dome Scandal
A focus on the production of consumer oriented goods, guided by the electrification of urban homes,: Refrigerators, washing machines, toasters, vacuum cleaners, wristwatches, and radios

Lost Generation
Members of the second generation born after emancipation. They did not accept white supremacy. They were proud of their race and demanded full citizenship and participation in American society.
New Negro
Influx of black migrants to the north during and after WW1 that created a black cultural renaissance
Harlem Renaissance
Set up by Marcus Mosiah Garvey in 1914, which promoted racial separation, pride, and economic self-help through black owned businesses
Universal Negro Improvement Association
A case where 2 italian immigrants were put on trial for a murder-robbery, the judge was racist and sentenced them to death, people around the world were against this.
Sacco and Vanzetti Case
Limited entry by any foreign group to 2 percent of the number of people of that nationality who resided in the United States in 1890.
National Origins Act
Granted citizen ship and the right to vote to all First nation’s peoples, but was ultimatley unhelpful
Indian Citizenship Act
October 29th, 1929, the stock market prices crashed and signaled the start of the Great Depression.
