Analysis

A

This was important as it helped the elderly drastically as 75 % of the elderly stopped going to the workhouses because insurance contributions were necessary for the pension so nearly a million people had the pension.

Analysis Plus

A

However, the Pension was 5 shillings a week which fell below the poverty line and didn’t help the elderly stay out of poverty at all but only half a million qualified as there were many restrictions including being over 70 which many did not reach and all the requirements needed to even be considered for the pension.

Evaluation

A

In evaluation, despite the criticisms that the pension was well below the poverty line, it should be noted that Llyod George was under immense pressure to spend resources on dreadnought battleships. Introducing the pension at this time can be seen as a major achievement.
