The Nucleus Flashcards
What is the function of the Nucleus?
To control the cells activities and retain genetic material in the form of chromosomes.
What is the appearance of the Nucleus?
It is a large organelle surrounded by a double membrane.
What structures does the Nucleus contain?
Nuclear Pores, Nuclear Envelope, Nucleolus and the Nucleoplasm.
What is the Nuclear Envelope and its purpose?
The Nuclear Envelope is the double membrane, controlling the entry and exit of materials.
Where does the Nuclear Envelope extend from?
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum.
What s the function of the Nucleolus?
It manufactures ribosomal RNA and assembles ribosomes.
What is the purpose of the Nuclear Pores and how many are there?
It allows large substances like mRNA out into the cytoplasm and there are typically around 3000.
