What is androgen insensitivity syndrome?

A

A condition where a person is born with genotype 46XY but due to androgen insensitivity they have ambiguous internal genitalia and female external genitalia

May be diagnosed at birth, more commonly at puberty

  • primary amenorrhoea
  • undescended testes causing groin swellings

Diagnosis by buccal smear or chromosomal analysis to determine genotype
