The Nervous System Flashcards
Cranial nerves that are considered as Suptratentorial structure
CN I OLFACTORY
CN II OPTIC
Cranial nerves in the Infratentorial structures? Specifically in the midbrain, pons and medulla
Midbrain - 3 & 4
Pons - 5, 6, 7 & 8
Medulla a 9,10,11 & 12
The only cranial nerve that arises on the dorsal surface of the brain
CN IV - TROCHLEAR
Most medial aspect of the brainstem
CN 3, 6, 12
Cranial nerves with parasympathetic component
III - oculomotor - innervates smooth muscle for constriction of pupil
VII - facial - secretomotor to lacrimal, submandibular and sublingual glands
IX - glossopharyngeal - secretomotor to parotid
X - vagus - innervate smooth muscles of thoracic and abdominal organs
Innervates the smooth muscles, cardiac muscles and secretomotor to glands
