The Nervous System Flashcards
These fibers release acetylcholine at the presynaptic cleft/synapse
cholinergic fibers
The cervical plexus
innervates neck and posterior portion of head
C1 to C4
motor impulses to diaphragm
the enzyme that rapidly destroys acetylcholine after impulse has been transmitted
acetylcholinesterase
The brachial plexus
C5 to T11
nerves: axillary, radial, median, musculocutaneous, ulnar
cells that create myelin sheath in the peripheral nervous system
Schwann cells
axillary nerve
supplies deltoid and teres minor
arm abduction and lateral rotation
structures of the diencephalon
thalamus
subthalamus
epithalamus
hypothalamus
radial nerve
supplies muscles that extend elbow, wrist, fingers, and thumbs
median nerve
supplies pronator muscles of forearm, flex wrist, fingers, and thumb
The Limbic system
parts of cerebum and diencephalon
emotions, motivation, mood, pain and pleasure
musculocutaneous nerve
flex shoulder and elbow
sensation to lateral surface of forearm
ulnar nerve
flex wrist and fingers
abduct and adduct fingers and thumbs
sensation in areas of hand
layers of the meninges
dura mater (outer)
arachnoid
pia mater (inner)
Lumbosacral plexus
Lumbar = L1 to L4
Sacral = L4 to S4
supply lower extremity: obturator, femoral, tibial, common peroneal
obturator nerve
adduct thigh, rotate laterally
sensation to upper medial side of thigh
