the nervous system Flashcards
primary sensory
processing affeernt somatosensory input and contributes to the integration of sensory and motor signals for our skilled movemnt
association cortex
sensory info
secondary sensory
association with spatial and memory with sensory experiences
posterior commissure
located more towards the posterior part of the cerebral cortex in the posterior wall of
Gray matter
Gray matter neuron arranged in layers forming a sheet of tissue
white matter
axons and glia cells forming tracts interconnecting the brain
central nervous system
the central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system consist of all nerves and neurons.
The autonomic nervous system is involved in controlling smooth muscles ,the heart and various glands.
the sympathetic activatedincreass heart rate, diverst blood from the digestive trac to somatic muculature and prepares the body for fight or -fight responses by stimulating the adrenal glands.
Parasympathetich branch is responsible for decreasing heart rate and stimulation digestion
spinal cord
the spinal cord takes in sensory info from the body’s perheral sensory receptors , relasy it to the brain and conducts the outgoing motor signals from the brain to the muscles.
the brainstem
medulla ,pons,cerebellum and midbrain
