The nervous system Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the function of receptors in the skin
A
Receptors are cells that can detect change in in the outside environment. This then sends signals to the coordination centre, spinal cord or pancreas.
2
Q
What are the 2 types of effector? What response do they make?
A
muscle - contracting
glands - releases hormones e.g. adrenaline or chemicals
3
Q
How does the nervous system work?
A
- body detects change using sensory receptors
- passed along by the electrical impulse along the special cells called sensory neurons
- impulse travels till it reaches the central nervous system.
- relay neurone passes information to the motor neurone.
- motor neurone transmits the impulse to the effectors witch then contract (muscles), or secrete chemical substances (hormones and glands)
