Q

What are the conditions that need controlling?

Give examples of the conditions

A

internal conditions - water, temperature, glucose (blood sugars) Ion content
waste products - CO2, Urea (in urine)

Q

Why do we need homeostasis?

A

Cells need the right conditions to function properly, including the right conditions for enzyme action

Q

What is negative feedback?

A

When the level of something gets to high or too low it uses negative feedback to bring it back to normal.

Q

How does negative feedback work?

A

RECEPTOR detects a stimulus level is too high of too low
the COORDINATION CENTER receive and processes the information and the organises a response
EFFECTOR produces a response which counteracts the change and restores the optimum level - the level increases or decreases
the effectors will just carry on producing the responses for as long as there stimulated by the coordination centre. if level becomes too different the negative feedback starts again.
